In conjunction with the University of Texas and Blizzard COO Paul Sams, Deux Ex creator Warren Spector is set to open a new game development academy, the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy. The new school will be the first of its kind to be led by industry executives and it is understood that the course will focus on management and team leadership for game projects as opposed to the traditional design/creative focus of game development degrees.
The school is highly competitive, with only 20 places available for 2014, but will endow its alumni with a post-baccalaureate certificate at the end of an intensive 12-month course. The course will task budding developers with creating a small game as part of a team, and will aim to give learners a realistic experience of the pressures of development. Successful applicants will also receive a tuition fee waiver and $6000 in living cost grants.
