Oddworld Inhabitants Inc., the developers behind the critically acclaimed Oddworld series, have announced a direct sequel to the original hit Abe’s Odyssey, which launched over a decade ago.
The sequel, entitled Oddworld: Soulstorm is currently being co-developed by teams in California and the UK and aims to carry a much darker tone. The story picks up after the events of the original, with Abe’s genesis and the overthrow of RuptureFarms.
Abe finds himself stranded in the dessert along with his 300 newly emancipated Mudoken companions, without food or water. They soon find solace in a strange new brew – a delicious drink that has insidious ramifications for their newfound freedom.
“There was a deeper, darker, and more sinister story that we never got to tell,” explains series creator, Lorne Lanning. “Soulstorm gives us the opportunity to flesh out more meat on the bones of an original spine, but re-tell the fable from a very different angle.”
The news was broken via a new website that was set up to publicise the release. The more followers the developer’s official twitter account gains, the more pictures are revealed of Abe’s new design. So far, a shot of the hand and chest have been revealed with the head shot still waiting to be unlocked.
The game has been slated for a 2017 release date.
