New Details Emerge for Crusader Kings 2: Jade Dragon

New details have emerged concerning the upcoming expansion to Paradox Interactive’s popular regicide-simulator, Crusader Kings 2.

Titled Crusader Kings 2: Jade Dragon, the new expansion ventures forth into the mysterious lands of the exotic east, where his royal eminence, the Emperor of China, resides.

As the game progresses and the rulership of China shifts hands, the status of the empire can change, with potentially devastating effects for those in the west. China can transition between several states, including open diplomacy with western powers, isolationism, and even expansionism, all which can dramatically alter both the safety of your own kingdom, as well as the influx of wealth and goods ushered forth into western territories via the fabled Silk Road.

Players can attempt to garner the emperor’s good graces by gifting him (or her) with gold or even eunuchs. In return, the emperor can grant you various rewards and benefits, including specialist advisors and even military aid against rival empires, as long as they are worthy of China’s attention.

However, a wise ruler must be cautious not to poke the dragon. While China displays benevolence towards its allies, the same cannot be said for those who oppose the emperor’s will. During the course of the game, it is entirely likely that China might decide to invade the barbaric western powers, potentially spelling doom for all European powers. One must be tentative in their diplomatic correspondence with the great Eastern empire.

It seems that players will be unable to directly play as the emperor or any of the countless vassals within the borders of the Chinese empire, which is undoubtedly disappointing if true. That said however, the region of Tibet will be entirely playable, a feature that will be available to all players thanks to patch that will release concurrent to the expansion’s release.

Other features including in Jade Dragon include eight new casus bellis, a new rally point system, dozens of new Tibetan and Chinese character portraits, a new Tributary system, Chinese Mercenaries, wondrous new Chinese artefacts for your characters and much more.

Crusader Kings 2: Jade Dragon will release later this year for $14.99 – no specific pricing for Europe or UK has revealed as of yet.
